Words from the Director

I would like to thank you for visiting our site. I also wanted to share with you some ideas that I have myself as a director and that Foothills Childcare and Pre-School has as a center. It is an imperfect world that we live in and so we can never claim to be perfect. It would only take a second to see that we'll not meet that bar, as no one can.

We do, however, have a very clear picture of where we want to go. Our goal for each and every child is to prepare him or her for their journey beyond our center. We are NOT the finish line by any means. Every child is unique and we take into consideration that their paths will not be the same. There is no one size fits all scenario, but we want all of our children to go onto kindergarten batting a thousand percent.

One of the ways we do this is by giving each child a Brigance test around the age of 3 ½. This helps us determine where they are skill-wise, in comparison to where the schools would like them to be when starting kindergarten. We are then able to focus on the skills that they may need help with as individual students. Before a child leaves our pre-k, we try and be sure they have certain skills under their belt.

Some of these skills include: knowing upper and lower-case letters, simple math concepts, writing skills (including their name, phone numbers, addresses), self-sufficiency in restrooms and of course a good understanding of classroom etiquette.

One of the best feelings in the world is to see children progress as their skill and confidence grows. I feel that I am one of a select group of people who absolutely loves their job. I have been fortunate enough to be a part of that experience for so many children in our community over the past 20 years.

If you decide that we are a good fit for you and your family, I will do everything I can to make it a positive and rewarding experience. It is my personal goal to see every family to the finish line. It is not a perfect world and I cannot promise the moon. I can assure you, though, that everyone at Foothills will work hard every day, with a common goal of providing an environment and a foundation that will serve your child and your family for years to come.
